How To Find Opportunities In Chaos

It's day 229 of documenting 2025.

It's a sunny Sunday over here.
A little windy but it's fine.
And it's 2:07pm as I type this.

Normally, I would already be planning how my week would go, as well as the tasks I need to complete.
However, I put out a tweet on X this morning and I stated the fact that things won't always go the way we plan them.

We should just focus on living today instead of worrying about tomorrow.
That, I vibe with.
Infact, that's how I've been able to keep writing on this blog, every single day.
I just write for today....like I'm doing now.

And one thing occurred to me few moments ago.
The things is: if I write something worth sharing, I should share it, not make it sit there.

So, I'm only on X now...but it wasn't always that way.
At the beginning of this year, I was on Instagram, Threads, and Facebook.
After a few months, I dropped Threads and IG...to focus on Facebook.
I opened my X account in May, but stopped when it became more about shallow content and making money.

I also deactivated my Facebook page two months ago, when I realized that an online presence to make money wasn't the ultimate goal for me.
I stepped back on WhatsApp at the same time and stopped replying and posting on my status.

All the while, I was still writing on this blog.
Some days, I would be so tired and almost not post that day.
My views on this blog dropped, as I wasn't sharing the links for people to read anymore.
Now, I just see a few views on this post....but the last few posts before this one got no views, and that's where we are now.

I came back to X this month...a network I haven't mastered, like Facebook or IG.
And this time, I'm clear on what I want to do: just share what I write.
Blogger, where I host my posts, is not like Medium or Substack...with built-in audiences.

I've mentioned on some posts here that it doesn't matter if people read this blog now, that they will read later.
But how will they read later, if I don't share it now? 😄
You tell me.
If you're finally reading this post , it's because I DID share this post.

Please check out the posts before this one by heading to the main website, Documenting 2025.
They're very interesting reads, I assure you.

Anyways, let's move on to the next section I like to call Highlights.
It's basically me sharing notes from a book called 365 Days With Self-discipline.
Like the name implies, it has a note on self-discipline for every single day of the year.

And since the goal is to write every single day of this year, why not share something in that line?
Let's get into it!

365 Days With Self-discipline
📌 On the Opportunity in Chaos

"In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity."
Quote by Sun Tzu

When everything goes wrong, you might be tempted to think that everything is already lost.
You’ve already made a mistake, you can’t go past the obstacles, the negative circumstances got the best of you.

There’s no denying the fact that chaos doesn’t make it easy to think logically. However, if you exert some willpower and force yourself to examine the situation without emotions clouding your judgment, you might discover new opportunities in the middle of chaos.

For example, if you’re on a diet and somehow one cheat meal turned into a week-long binge, you can conclude that everything is lost and give up.
It’s the easy choice, but as we’ve already discussed on many occasions, easy choices are rarely the right ones.
The chaos that has ensued in your diet offers opportunities.

For example, you can now jot down the thoughts you have when you gorge on unhealthy food after a long period of going without it. What makes you eat it?
What’s the underlying motive? How can you satisfy your need for junk food without actually eating it?

If you’ve been following a healthy diet for several weeks, you can probably also notice the difference in how you feel after eating crap. Whenever I spend a few days eating less healthily, I have a craving to return to my usual diet.

Your mistake can then reinforce your will to part ways with junk food forever.
Treat chaos as an opportunity to learn, and you might benefit from it even more than if you had never found yourself in the middle of it.

PS. I had to share the whole note today, as the diet example is perfect 😏
The author, Martin Meadows really hit on this point.

And I think it doesn't just work for someone on a diet.
It can work for you as well.
Maybe you're trying to stop a bad habit, like doomscrolling or excessive gaming.
The next time you find yourself doing it, examine what happens and look for alternatives.

It's kinda like what I wrote about in the last post, about rewiring.
In the last post, I did a little breakdown on how you can turn a weakness into a strength.
Do check it out 😌

And now, I'll share a poem or two from my new poetry collection.
It's called Lanterns For The Lost.
It's made up of poems that kinda speak to you as you read...and a reflective line at the end.
Let me show you what I mean.

The Balance Of Being

Remember the thread you’re woven from
this world, vast and breathing,
the place where your soul
finds its place among stars and dust.

You are not here to chase applause,
but to walk in step with truth,
to move gently with the tide of nature,
to speak with a voice that knows
its own quiet strength.

Anger burns,
but it is the flame of a wound
a wild response to pain,
fading as quickly as it came.
But desire?

Desire is a softer cage,
velvet on the outside,
iron on the inside.
It teaches you to bow
while whispering you are free.

Do not bend for it.
Do not hand over the weight of your soul
to the pleasure that will forget your name.
You are not made for crawling.
You were made to stand.

Something to think about
Do my choices today come from pain I need to heal or from desires I need to master?

Hmm, that gets you thinking doesn't it? 😌
On the question, I think it's the latter for me, but I'm working on it.
I hope you find this as impactful.
Thanks for reading 🎀

Oh and by the way, you can download your free copy of Lanterns For The Lost.

I'm Duon Ada.
I'm documenting 2025,
And I'll see you tomorrow.
Ciao 💕
