3 Rules For Sustainable Progress

It's day 155 of documenting 2025.

Wednesdays 😇
Umm....that's it.
I don't even know how to start today's post.
If you've been reading my posts, you'll notice that I'm not so good in introductions. Or beginnings.

But I try, don't I?
It's the 6th month already and it still doesn't feel like I've been writing for the past 5 months.
It feels like I just started.
Don't know if it's a good or bad thing...
I'm just saying 😌

Anyways (after awkward introductions, I can now flow...), today is the last day of test week at the school.
Thank God!
Yesterday wasn't as frustrating as Monday.
I got quite tired tho...and had a good nap as the rain brought in cool breeze.
Tis the rainy season, my friend 💧

I watched something interesting last night.
It was a 4-minute YouTube video by Robert Greene on the importance of reading books.
This was my thought pattern after watching the video:

Success starts in the mind 🧠
Expanding our mind greatly increases our chances of success.
How do we expand our mind? By reading books...about many different fields and histories.
When we don't read, our mind shrinks to the level of what we know only.
C'est fini!

Well, that's all about yesterday and its lessons.
Today, we will look at Highlights.
As usual...
Then I'm going to share the recap of the chapter I finished reading yesterday.
The book is called, The Ultimate Focus Strategy by Martin Meadows.
I think I've mentioned that a couple of times in former posts 🤔

365 Days With Self-discipline
📌 On Broadening Your Horizons

"What do you know of history, biology, evolution, ethics, and the thousand and one branches of knowledge?
“But,” you object, “I fail to see how such things can aid me in the writing of a romance or a poem.” Ah, but they will — not so much directly as by subtle reaction.
They broaden your thought, lengthen out your vistas, drive back the bounds of the field in which you work. They give you your philosophy, which is like unto no other man’s philosophy, force you to original thought."
Quote by Jack London

"Jack London’s advice is for writers who want to improve their craft, but it can also apply to any other domain.
Expanding your knowledge and exposing yourself to different disciplines is not only a fantastic way to become a more educated person, but also a powerful way to become more successful."

"Random bits of information from one domain can help you achieve success in another.
Likewise, experience gained in one field can provide the foundation for another endeavor."

"Draw parallels between different fields and strive to always expand your knowledge.
Becoming erudite can dramatically improve your ability to learn quickly and achieve success with many different endeavors."

I think these quotes emphasize what I said earlier about expanding our mind.
It pays to know a bit about different fields than to know so much of one thing only.

Now, let's move on to the recap.
It's more like an abridged version of the whole chapter...so it feels like you're also reading the actual thing.
Without further ado,

THREE GOLDEN RULES FOR SUSTAINABLE PROGRESS: QUICK RECAP

1. The goal of the Ultimate Focus Strategy is to help you achieve your most important goals, but not at the expense of destroying your personal life, health, relationships, etc.

Consequently, you need to know three principles on how to play the long game: discerning between needs and wants, choosing sustainability over fast growth, and fitting it in your life.

2. The strategy requires sacrifices, but according to the first principle, you should sacrifice your wants, not your needs.
In other words, you can’t afford to
sacrifice time spent with your children in order to build your business, but you can sacrifice time spent with people who aren’t your closest friends.

3. Choose sustainability over fast growth that can’t be maintained in the long term.
When developing an everyday routine, start small and start slowly.
Increase the pace until you meet with resistance and stay there for the sweet spot of sustainability and progress.
Sometimes extreme approaches can work, but when you decide to use them, make sure they’re only a temporary solution to kick-start a long-term strategy.

Also make sure that you experience eustress more often than distress.
Eustress — the positive kind of stress; helps you perform at your best, while distress leads to frustration and discouragement.
To perceive your goals as a source of eustress, stretch yourself slightly, instead of setting goals that are far beyond your present ability.

4. The Ultimate Focus Strategy that doesn’t fit into your life won’t work in the long term.
If you can’t see it as a part of your everyday life for the next months, years, or even decades, you won’t sustain it.
That’s why you need to understand two key concepts: rest days and readjustment periods.

Rest days are purposely scheduled days where you take a break to recharge both your physical as well as mental energy.
Taking such breaks reduces the risk of burnout and helps you see things from a new perspective.
Readjustment periods is a concept I use to describe the fact that we don’t live in an ideal world.

You’ll have both good and bad days 😪
Whenever you find yourself in less than favorable circumstances, try to do at least one most essential action to progress further with your goals.
On the other hand, when things are easy and you’re on a roll, don’t be afraid to experiment, try new things, and push yourself.

That's all for the recap.
Honestly, I don't think this should be called a recap.
Let's just call it a mini guide.
Or what do you think, my friend?

Anything else to add before I end the post?
Not really 🤔
Except for the fact that I wish you nothing short of the best in all your endeavors.

Thanks for reading 🎀
You may have started reading from day 1....or maybe you just joined.
Whatever the case is, your support has kept me going.
And I'll keep writing till day 365.
You can explore the main site, Documenting 2025.
See you there 😉

I'm Duon Ada, as you already know.
