Two Friends, More About Facebook
It's day 73 of documenting 2025.
How's it going, my friend?
I hope your week was good so far.
If it wasn't, try to have some fun today.
It's a Friyay! 🎉
And I'm gonna tell you what happened at the tutorial center yesterday.
It's about two friends.
Let's call them Elle and Viola.
When I started at the center, they were close.
They went to the same school and would come back at the same time.
Elle would go to Viola's house to change before they would come together to the evening class.
That stopped this week.
Yesterday, our Biology teacher tried to settle the disagreement between them but to no avail.
They're still mad at each other.
Before yesterday, Elle told me what she didn't like about Viola.
I asked Viola what happened yesterday and she also implied what she didn't like about Elle.
After hearing two sides of different stories, I'll just say the biggest problem they have is communication.
They don't communicate how they feel when a disagreement comes up.
If I were to advice Elle, I would say,
"If you have a problem with Viola, tell her and not someone else."
If I were to advice Viola, I would say,
"Be mindful of what you say about Elle to someone else. It may hurt her feelings while you might think it's a joke."
In my own opinion, I think Elle has the greater fault.
Hmm 🤔
Does she?
I think it's because of what I've heard from one of her school mates about how she behaves in school.
See how someone's 'story' can affect the way you think about another person?
Personally I didn't like Elle at first.
The way she makes remarks about someone can make the person punch her in the face 👀
Most times, people just ignore her offensive words.
But I notice that she talks less nowadays and when I walked with her, I tried to understand how she feels and thinks.
I think she's just misunderstood.
Her opinions and way of thinking are quite unique and not what most people agree with.
Viola seems okay.
She still participates in class and talks to other students.
She doesn't look like she's affected by the dispute with Elle.
When Viola 'apologized' yesterday, everyone said that Elle shouldn't put what happened in mind, that she should forget about it.
I don't think Elle is willing to do that.
Is there anything I can do about it?
What do you think?
I shouldn't meddle....just focus on why I'm there.
Typical advice 😏
But I will try to talk to Elle.
Not even about the dispute or Viola.
I think she needs to work on herself.
I could start with a written note to her.
She's not using a phone, so I can't send her a message.
My aim is not to change her or how she thinks...I just want to make her understand that she could do better.
There's a lot more I can say, but I think I should end it here.
It's time for highlights!
Today's reads are:
📚 365 Days With Self-discipline by Martin Meadows
📚 Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook by Gary Vaynerchuck.
(It's about social media marketing!)
I'll share the points I highlighted and give my thoughts, as usual.
Let's dive into it.
365 Days With Self-discipline
📌 Day 73: On Having Fun
"Fun is at the core of the way I like to do business and it has been key to everything I’ve done from the outset.
More than any other element, fun is the secret of Virgin’s success.
I am aware that the idea of business as being fun and creative goes right against the grain of convention, and it’s certainly not how they teach it at some of those business schools, where business means hard grind and lots of “discounted cash flows” and “net present values”.
Quote by Richard Branson
Business shouldn't make you feel miserable, in my opinion.
If it does, you can quit it eventually.
That was the case for me when I went into affiliate marketing.
But not anymore!
I love to write ✍🏼
It's fun for me
Oh yeah, that's right
It makes me happy 🎶
"Building self-discipline and working on your long-term goals doesn’t have to be a chore.
In fact, if it is, you’ll have a hard time reaching success because if something bores you to tears or doesn’t produce much excitement, it’s difficult to stick to it in the long term."
I may still go into affiliate marketing.
That is, after I've built a ready audience through my writing.
That's how I can stick to it.
"The only way to develop a permanent habit of regular physical activity is to find an exercise you enjoy.
Without the fun factor, exercise will always feel like a chore, and you probably already have enough obligations in your life.
The same applies to virtually any other endeavor."
The physical activity I mainly do is stretching.
It's quite fun and I wonder why some people would dislike it.
There's this app by Leap Fitness Groups that I'm using.
So far, I've kept a 24 day streak.
I didn't do any stretches yesterday tho 😐
"Do you consider working on your goals enjoyable and fun or is it mostly a chore?
If it’s the latter, time to grab a notepad and make a list of things you can do to introduce more fun and excitement."
My main goal to get to day 365 has been enjoyable for me so far.
It's day 73....couple of days away from day 100!
I love coming up with new ideas about what to write and sharing my thoughts on certain opinions.
This blog is quirky, but it's my quirky 🤗
I hope there's something that excites you as much as Documenting 2025 excites me.
Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook
📌 Storytell On Facebook
(Still on this chapter....I'm not going to give any thoughts on this one, because I think it's explanatory enough...and I'm learning as well)
"......the majority of brands and businesses still haven’t realized the unprecedented insight Facebook gives us into people’s lives and psychology, insight that allows marketers to optimize every jab, every piece of micro-content, and every right hook.
"Facebook wants users to see things that they find relevant, fun, and useful, not annoying and pointless, or else they’ll abandon the site.
Which means you’d better create
content that’s relevant, fun, and useful, too."
"The very thing that makes marketers want to have a presence on Facebook—the sheer number of users—makes the platform a marketing challenge.
A billion users, and all the content they generate, creates a conundrum: with so many pieces of content streaming into consumers’ News Feeds and competing for attention, it’s unlikely they will see any content you post, even the good stuff."
"To help mitigate the consequences of literal TMI, Facebook finally settled on an algorithm called EdgeRank.
Every interaction a person has with Facebook, from posting a status update or a photo, to liking, sharing, or commenting, is called an “edge,” and theoretically, every edge channels into the news stream."
"The more engagement a user has with a piece of content, the stronger EdgeRank believes that user’s interest will be in similar content, and it filters that person’s news stream accordingly (a randomizer ensures that occasionally we’ll see a post from someone we haven’t talked to in years, thus keeping Facebook fresh and surprising)."
"Every engagement, whether between friends or between users and brands, strengthens their connection and the likelihood that EdgeRank will push appropriate content from those friends and brands to the top of a user’s News Feed.
That’s of course where you, the marketer, want to see your brand or business."
Okay, I'll stop here.
This is new information that I'm still trying to assimilate.
I hope you learned something as well, my friend 🎀
Something about the social media you were probably using before finding my post.
If you're a marketer, I think you should get Gary Vee's book.
If you can't get his book, watch his YouTube videos.
They're lit 🔥
Gary Vee knows his stuff when it comes to social media.
And you'll probably get a few tips you can apply to your business too.
You're welcome!
Thanks for reading, my friend 😊
As always, you spent some time reading what I have to share today.
Last time I checked Google Analytics, I had 120 readers!
And I'm sure you're one of them.
Thank you 🙏🏼
I'm Duon Ada and I like to call myself the eccentric writer.
I'm documenting each day in 2025
And I'll see you tomorrow
Peace ✌🏼
