Crochet Can Help Me Focus!
It's day 135 of documenting 2025.
And it's another blessed day...
Another opportunity,
Another chance.
To do better than yesterday.
It's my second day at work as a teacher.
I'm gonna teach em' good!
And I put on the proper footwear this time.
It's an old pair...and Dad said he'll get me a new one by the weekend.
(I probably sound like a spoilt brat 😏)
Anyhoo, yesterday was good.
I got home after school and collapsed on my bed.
Who knew teaching could be so exhausting!
Shout out to all teachers out there!
You're amazing 💜
I had a chat with ChatGPT last night.
That was after I read something from "The Ultimate Focus Strategy" by Martin Meadows.
The section talked about a high focus sport....as a way of overcoming everyday distractions.
I put two and two together....
Then I decided to ask a couple of questions.
Here's how it went:
Me: What is a high-focus sport or activity? Explain like you would to a twelve year old.
ChatGPT: A high-focus sport or activity is something that needs all your attention—you can’t let your mind wander or get distracted, even for a second.
It’s like playing a video game where if you blink too long, you lose.
You have to stay sharp the whole time.
Examples:
Gymnastics: You have to balance, move perfectly, and stay focused or you might fall.
Archery: One small move and you’ll miss the target.
Chess: It’s not fast, but your brain has to stay 100% focused on every move.
Rock climbing: You need to watch every step so you don’t slip.
So basically, high-focus means your mind and body are both "on" the entire time—no zoning out!
Me: What about crochet? Can it be classified as a high-focus activity?
ChatGPT: Yes, crochet can be a high-focus activity, especially when you're:
* Following a complex pattern
* Trying a new stitch
* Counting rows and loops carefully
When you're doing these things, your mind has to pay attention so you don’t mess up and have to undo your work.
But once you get really good at crochet, simple patterns can feel relaxing instead of intense.
So it can shift between high-focus and low-focus, depending on what you're working on and your skill level.
So, yes—it can be high-focus, especially for beginners or complex projects.
Me: I'm not a beginner. Can it still be a high-focus activity for me?
The thing is, I struggle with focusing on a particular task and I tend to multitask.
ChatGPT: Yes, even as a skilled crocheter, crochet can still be a high-focus activity—if you let it be.
Here’s why:
You’re already good, so your hands know what to do. But if you:
* Try a detailed pattern that requires counting or precision,
* Set a goal like “finish this section without distractions,” or
* Crochet without watching TV, talking, or checking your phone,
…it becomes a deliberate focus exercise.
In fact, crochet can be a great way to train your focus, because:
* It keeps your hands busy (which helps calm restlessness).
* It gives your brain something specific to track (like stitches or rows).
* Mistakes show up quickly, which teaches you to stay present.
So yes—if you do it intentionally, crochet can help you practice single-tasking and rebuild your focus muscles.
Want a small challenge to try it that way?
Me: Hold that thought! What are the focus muscles? Explain briefly.
ChatGPT: "Focus muscles” is just a fun way to describe the parts of your brain that help you pay attention, stay on task, and ignore distractions.
The main “muscle” for focus is a part of your brain called the prefrontal cortex—it’s like your brain’s manager. It helps you:
* Concentrate
* Make decisions
* Control impulses
* Stay organized
Just like real muscles, the more you use it, the stronger it gets.
So every time you practice doing one thing at a time—like crocheting without distractions—you’re training your focus muscle.
Over time, it gets easier to focus longer and not get pulled in ten directions at once.
Me: Oh! So if I crochet more, I can train my focus muscles and eventually focus more on other tasks, right?
ChatGPT: Exactly—you got it!
If you crochet with the intention to stay focused (no multitasking, no distractions), you're exercising your focus muscle.
And just like lifting weights makes your arms stronger for other things (like carrying groceries), focused crochet can make it easier to focus on other tasks too—like reading, writing, or working.
Think of it like this:
> Crochet = mental gym (if you do it mindfully)
Over time, your brain learns, “Oh! We’re good at paying attention to one thing,” and that skill starts showing up in other areas of your life.
So yes—your hook and yarn can actually make you more focused and productive.
That's where it stopped.
I asked no further questions.
I simply wanted to confirm....
Crochet can help me focus!
Amazing 😄
Now that I have a new hook, I can practice during the weekends...
Train my "focus muscles".
And make something adorable.
Let's get into Highlights...
Before I explode with excitement!

📌 On Staying In Love With Your Goals
"Skipping around from one kind of pursuit to another: grit is about working
on something you care about so much that you’re willing to stay loyal to it. Not
just falling in love — staying in love."
Quote by Angela Duckworth
"It’s easy to fall in love, but hard to stay in love, particularly when the waters get rough.
It takes constant recommitment, sacrifice, and a willingness to deeply care for what you already have.
In a sense, falling in love is like
immediate gratification, giving you butterflies and all that jazz without any
unpleasantries, while staying in love (although it’s rewarding in the long run) is
sometimes an act of sacrifice that requires a great deal of self-control.
When you set your goals, do you tend to stick to them for the long haul, or
do you let the temptation to change things decide for you?"
"The shiny object syndrome is the inability to maintain focus on one thing,
mistakenly believing that the grass is greener on the other side.
Instead of
investing all of your resources in just one thing (for example, a specific
relationship, business, diet, etc.), you constantly replace the thing you have now
with something else, just because it’s new and shiny.
What you fail to realize,
though, is that by constantly “upgrading,” you never get to build something that lasts, so you fail to achieve your long-term goals."
"The next time you find yourself researching a new diet, workout plan,
business model, way to save money, technique to stay productive, and so on,
remind yourself that unless your approach is clearly not working at all (and for
that, you need to stick to it in the long term), all you’re doing is falling under the
spell of instant gratification that will endanger your long-term goal."
There are no words...
Just tears in my eyes 🥲
(Figurative tears tho....)
Lately, it's like I've just been getting encouragement to stick to what I'm currently doing.
First, I read a post on Facebook about the fact that a page grows gradually and eventually, it blows up in terms of comments and engagement.
Then today's highlight?
It's a sign, my friend.
A sign that the path I'm taking is right for me.
I'm definitely staying in love with my long-term goals and commitments.
I'll keep at it...no relenting 💪
And I hope you do same.
Moving on...
Blast From The Past
📌 Get A Slice Of This!
Hear this...
I used a rather queer picture for this one.
The cake looked mystical...and inviting at the same time 🍰
I mainly talked about the lessons I learned from the section I read in Tony's book.
(Awaken The Giant Within)
And the fact that I held a WhatsApp class and taught people about AI prompting.
The idea is that I was eating a wisdom cake...slice by slice.
Frankly speaking, I haven't finished the cake...
I just kept it for a while.
I can come back to it...later on.
And yes...
The post is what I would call a not-so-long post.
It took me less than 3 minutes to read through it.
But as I look back, it reminded me of how far I've come.
Documenting 2025 is more than just a blog...it's a journey.
And I hope to see you here, when I get to day 365.
Thanks for reading, my friend ☺️
I really appreciate you stopping by.
You can leave a comment to say "hi" if you want to....or not.
And if you want to catch up on former posts, visit Documenting 2025.
I'll see you there 😉
Oh, and by the way, I have a Selar store...where three of my original products are hosted.
No PLR or MRR.
I'm Duon Ada, the eccentric writer
I'm documenting 2025.
And I'll see you tomorrow
Ciao 💕
