Late Thursday, Humor Promise

It's day 72 of documenting 2025.

I decided to type late today.
I'm talking 8:24 am kind of late.
But this post is out and here you are!
It's nice to have you here, my friend 🎀

I think I should just start with today's book highlights.
Give thoughts on each quote.
Then add anything else that pops into my head.
Cool? Let's get into it!

Before I start, lemme just put it out there.
I don't rewrite ANY of my posts.
I don't outline either.
It's all straight from my noggin 🧠
Once I type, I copy and paste into the post editor and do the formatting there.
As well as minor adjustments.
Then I hit publish.
Now ya know 🤓

Well, today's highlights will be coming from:
📚 365 Days With Self-discipline (challenge companion)
📚 Everybody Writes (Thursday's read)
In case you don't know, the first is written by Martin Meadows and the second by Ann Handley.

365 Days With Self-discipline
📌 Day 72: On The Value Of The Struggle

"To have striven, to have made the effort, to have been true to certain ideals; this alone is worth the struggle."
Quote by William Osler

I prefer trying to do something at first and not getting it right than not doing it at all.
How about you, my friend?

"The focus is on the success, not the struggle.
And it’s understandable; success is glamorous, memorable, and marketable, while the struggle is drab, disagreeable, and unattractive for the general public."

Success is definitely marketable 😏
The glitz, the glam, the glory
There's something called, "lifestyle marketing" for crying out loud!
But people rarely show the struggle, the tears....
How messy it appears.
Sometimes they say, "hustle in private, succeed in public"
I guess that's the mentality 🤷🏼

"Yet, it’s making the effort, struggling, and sticking to your resolutions that shapes you as a person.
Success is a reward for having given it your best, but it’s not always within your control whether and when you get to enjoy it."

Simply put, some people succeed but don't live long enough to enjoy that success.
Your struggle and effort is what makes you successful, not necessarily the achievement.
I say this because the achievement can be taken away, but not who you become in the process.

"Whenever you find yourself discouraged by your lack of success, remind yourself that the process alone is your reward.
It’s in your hands whether you
allow yourself to see the rewards the struggle generates or ignore them, mindlessly pursing the end result as the sole indicator of success."

Think of it this way: you're writing your story.
As you struggle and get discouraged, keep putting in the effort.
When people see you succeed, you will have a story to tell them.
A story of how you struggled but kept going.
You will be an inspiration to a young guy or lady out there ✨

Everybody Writes
📌 Embrace The Ugly First Draft

"TUFD isn't a pass you give yourself to produce substandard work.
But it is a necessary part of the process of creating above standard work."

I'm guessing you know the meaning of TUFD right now.
You don't?
Well, I guess you'll figure it out 👆🏼

Here's something fun I want to do 😄
I'm going to pretend that the following quotes are advice from a writing instructor.
We're face to face in a writing session.
I'm going to reply like I'm a student who doesn't want to learn.
Enjoy!

"Much of writing paralysis is the result of expecting too much of ourselves the first time out."

Nope, I don't expect anything....
I just do a brain dump
And look! I'm perfectly fine!

"Very often, the people you think of as good writers are terrible writers on their first drafts.
But here's their secret: They are excellent editors of their own work."

I'm a bad editor....but I'm still a good writer
And my first drafts are perfection 👌🏼
Take this post for example...
It's good, right?

"As painful and depressing as it
might be to write badly—at least you're writing, you're getting the mess out of your head and onto the screen or paper.
Then, when you get back to it, you can start shaping it into something more respectable."

Tell me about it! 😬
It's sometimes a mess on the screen.
Get back to it? Nah, son!
I just hit publish and get on with my day.
The shaping is probably the space I leave between paragraphs.
Good enough ✅

"Barf up TUFD. Think about what you want to say (think before ink!) and add your guiding bullet points or sentences at the top of the page."

The ugly first draft?
Barf?
How dare you? 😒
My first draft is not ugly, neither can it be compared to vomit!
I think, write...and it's a work of art.

"Ban self-slandering remarks. Don't beat yourself up by saying things like 'I'm a crappy writer' or 'this is awful'.
TUFD isn't for anyone to see but you.
It's the content equivalent of staying home alone in your jammies all day and eating peanut butter straight from the jar.
Revel in it. There's no one around to judge."

Now you're talking!
Home alone, in my jammies with peanut butter!
No one to judge me?
That's my kind of stuff 😁
I'll say it again,
I'm an excellent writer and my first draft is wonderful.

"Walk away. You'll feel some relief at getting the first draft out—but you
might also feel frustrated by your TUFD.
So this is a good time to walk away from each other."

Why will I be frustrated by my wonderful first draft?
Oh please!
Spare me the relationship talk 🙄

"Rewrite. When you do get back to it, you might be horrified."

How many times will I tell you?
I love my first draft.
There's no need to rewrite!

"But you will find things you like that you can upcycle.
In other words, take the best parts of the draft and use them in your final product."

Oh for the love of writing....🤦🏼
Final product?
You're not listening to me!
You're a bad instructor.
I think our writing session is over.
Could you check the time?

Well, my friend....
There you have it!
My first attempt at humor in a post.
If you can, please let me know what you think in the comments.
I would really love to hear from you 🙂
(You can comment as, 'anonymous')

Anything else I want to add?
Hmm, let's see 🤔
Oh yeah! I remember....
I'm going to continue with crochet.
I stopped mainly because I couldn't find a market for the things I would make.
But recently, I started making a crochet hat and people often ask me if I can make this or that for them.
Plus, my sister told me that people at her workplace are going crazy for crochet items.
Talk about a handicraft paying off.
I smell extra bucks 🤑

Now, with my knowledge of marketing, I can establish something.
But it's still in the building phase.
Now, it may not be constant due to study.
After JAMB, I will definitely have something doing.
Wish me luck 🤞🏼

That's all for today's post
Thanks for reading, my friend 😊
It's out very late today, but you're still here.
I hope you enjoyed it.
Don't forget to leave a comment, okay?

I'm Duon Ada.
I'm documenting 2025.
And I'll see you tomorrow.
Ciao 💕
