When Last Did You Feel Jealous?
It's day 10 of documenting 2025.
It's a wonderful Friday...and you'll probably be seeing the TGIF theme in your social media feed.
How do you usually feel every Friday, Ami?
Happy because the week is almost over or sad because.....
Hold on...why would anyone be sad because it's Friday? 🤔
I think the word is 'grateful'.
Grateful for how the week went so far.
Well, something happened yesterday and I felt something I haven't felt in a very long time.
And no... it's not a relationship thing.
My younger sister got an appointment to work at a school.
As a teacher.
She came back home after the interview with the good news.
Suddenly, I felt jealous.
Maybe it's because my CV was still being processed for an appointment.....and no call for interview yet.
But I smiled anyway and congratulated her.
It wasn't a good feeling at all...but I felt it.
Later in the evening, I acknowledged that I was jealous of my sister.
I was outside in the cold night, talking to myself about how I felt.
One thing I realized tho...
I looked at her appointment from one perspective only.
It was the perspective of "she got a job, I didn't".
But then, I changed the perspective and saw it as "she made the family proud and her journey is different from mine".
I was able to let go of that feeling and I felt peace afterwards.
Jealousy is not a good feeling.
Neither is anger.
Or hate.
But a lesson I learned from yesterday is this:
"Acknowledge how you're feeling, don't suppress it. It becomes easier for it to fade away.
The more you suppress how you feel, the more it builds up and the more likely you are to explode".
It's one of those things you learn by experience, Ami.
Anyways, we'll go through my notes now....
I'm reading the book, Awaken The Giant Within by Anthony Robbins.
(Who I like to call Tony 😄)
I finished the next chapter I read which is titled: Harness The Power Of Decision.
It wasn't too long, it was more like a summary of the last chapter (Decisions: The Pathway To Power).
Tony gave six keys to help anyone harness the power of decision.
He referred to it as the power that shapes our experience of life every moment that we live it.
I'm going to give a summary of the six keys I took down in my note.
🗝️ Remember the true power of making decisions. It's a tool you can use in any moment to change your entire life.
🗝️ Realize that the hardest step in achieving anything is making a true commitment; a true decision. You know you've truly made a decision when action flows from it.
🗝️ Make decisions often. Muscles get stronger with use, and so it is with your decision-making muscles.
🗝️ Learn from your decisions. At times, you're going to screw up, no matter what you do.
🗝️ Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible in your approach. It's the end you're after.
🗝️ Enjoy making decisions. You must know that in any moment, a decision you make can change the course of your life forever.
A quote from Hellen Keller,
"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing".
Know that it's your decisions and not your conditions that determine your destiny.
After giving the six keys, Tony stated something I took as a challenge.
Here it is ✍️
"Prove to yourself that you've decided now.
Make one or two decisions that you've been putting off: one easy decision and one that's a bit more difficult.
Show yourself what you can do.
Right now, stop.
Make at least one clear-cut decision that you've been putting off; take the first action toward fulfilling it and stick to it!
By doing this, you'll be building that muscle 💪 that will give you the will to change your entire life."
You know what?
I took the challenge and did something I had been putting off.
Something that has the possibility to change my life.
Only Father Time will tell.
I put it to you, Ami.
Take the challenge and make a decision today.
You never know what might happen and I pray it's something good.
If you're reading this for the first time, hi there 👋.
I'm Duon Ada.
A girl in her early twenties exploring life and documenting her journey.
I refer to you as Ami because I see you as a dear friend.
('Ami' is French for 'friend')
Maybe we know each other or maybe we don't.
Either way, thanks for reading 😊
