Courage And Support
It's day 137 of documenting 2025.
Right now, I'm charging my phone and using that same opportunity to type this post.
If I don't finish with it now, I don't think I'll be able to make out time to write and publish it.
It's already 2:34pm and I'm just getting started...
Some days are like that π
All in all, it's still a very wonderful weekend for us all.
Don't you agree, my friend? π
Well, yesterday wasn't so interesting.
Unlike this morning.
So, let's start with that.
Today, I attended the first staff meeting at the school where I work.
I listened more than I talked...
Asked questions...
Listened again.
Then worked out what I intend to do and contribute to the students.
I'll lay it all out on paper in the evening.
Something else happened.
I finally gained the courage to message someone about my personal problems.
Things I haven't told anyone before, not even my closest friend.
I'm willing to take the next few months seriously and go all in with my personal development.
I can't do it alone....I realize that now.
The lesson here is this:
If you want to really change for good, you need courage and support.
Courage on your end and support from people around you.
The thing is, if you're not courageous enough to ask for support, you won't get it.
I've worked on my courage for the last four months....and I can say out of a 10, I'm a 7 on the courage chart.
Good enough ✅
I hope it goes better from now on.
I have the desire to stretch myself, finally move out of my comfort zone and see how far I can go.
Now, all this is happening.
First, my phone reset.
Now, a job.
I believe I can get through this and make an impact where I am.
God help me π
Now, it's time for the usual sections of this post.
The first one I call "Highlights" is where I share quotes from the usual read, a book which has a note for every single day of this year.
But today, I'll share the whole note.
(It's one of those days π)
The second section is what I call "Blast From The Past".
Pretty clichè.
In this section, I share the link to and talk about the earliest posts on this blog.
I'm talking posts from January.
The idea is to look back on how I used to write then...and reflect on how far I've come since then.
Without further ado....
365 Days With Self-discipline
π On Waiting For Ten Minutes
"For a cooler,
wiser brain, institute a mandatory ten-minute wait for
any temptation."
Quote by Kelly McGonigal
"Telling yourself that you’re going to get something in ten minutes satisfies
your craving for the next ten minutes.
After all, you are getting your reward; you
just need to wait ten minutes."
"A curious fact is that after ten minutes, it’s likely that you’ll no longer
remember the craving or it will have diminished to such a level that you’ll be
able to handle it.
And if not, you can tell yourself yet again that you’ll have it in
ten minutes and repeat the process until the urge is gone."
"If you find the urge overpowering, use a stopwatch and stare at it the entire
ten minutes before succumbing to the temptation. After ten minutes, even if you
still reward yourself, at least you’ll have exercised your self-control muscle a
little."
"Note that you can wait for ten minutes for any temptation in both directions: either by waiting for 10 minutes before you give in to something, or
by giving yourself 10 minutes to do something and then allowing yourself to
stop.
For example, if you’re facing the challenge of unpleasant, but necessary
and urgent work to do, tell yourself that you’ll only do it for ten minutes and
then you can quit. More often than not, you’ll continue.
And if not, as with
waiting for 10 minutes before giving in to a temptation, you’ll still have exercised your willpower."
Yep! I'm already using this technique.
I usually give myself 10 minutes to read books by Martin Meadows.
First is the usual read, from where I get "Highlights"
Second is the "Ultimate Focus Strategy", another one teaching focus.
After the timer rings (time up), I always keep reading...till I finish with the section.
I even came across a paragraph today....from the section called, "How To Overcome Everyday Distractions"
It goes like this:
"If you’re aware of the effect of certain activities on your concentration and
self-discipline, you can avoid ruining your day with what was supposed to be a
short break but ended up wiping out your ability to focus for the rest of the day."
Lesson here:
Self-awareness is always the first step to any kind of change you want to make in your life.
Knowing who you are as a person is key.
Moving on to the next section...
Blast From The Past
π You're Walking To Success?
Another of 'dem short posts'.
I can't actually remember why I decided to use that title...
God knows what I was thinking then π
I shared notes from the read then, Tony's book, Awaken The Giant Within.
And announced the 'launch' of my pioneer blueprint.
I was still on Threads then...
And the plan was to make sales organically through content marketing.
It didn't really work out later on....but I was super excited and very enthusiastic when I wrote the post.
I'm still going to promote my blueprint and serve my customers well.
I learned why it didn't work in the first place...
And I'm willing to play the long game.
It will definitely work.
Well, I think that's all for today's post.
Thanks for reading, my friend ☺️
I appreciate you joining me on another day in 2025.
Streak updated!
